This update just proves to show how big and large the Minecraft 1.18 and Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update truly is. Despite the update already out for almost a year now it is still getting some bug fixes and support to make it more balanced.
The key changes to this minor release was the addition of the /placefeature command which generates the a specific feature for the given location. Another highlight of the update includes changes to tags and the custom world generation.
Minecraft 1.18.2 Release
This minor update in Minecraft was officially released in February 28, 2022. Before it was officially released Mojang had pre-released 4 snapshots, and 3 pre-release versions.
All of these versions were mostly made playable on the Minecraft launcher during the development stage of the new update.
Playing with the 1.18.2 version of Minecraft is not compatible with servers which are still running in 1.18 and 1.18.1. This is a security measure to ensure that gameplay will not be affected.
The Minecraft 1.18.2 release also has a vast number of updates. This includes 95 total fixes from issues and bugs from both 1.18 and 1.18.1. This is currently the most balanced version of the Caves and Cliffs update.
“Added gameplay timers and notices in compliance with gaming laws of South Korea to everyone who is playing in South Korea, in order to remind these players to take occasional breaks from gameplay.”
Compliance with Gaming Laws
Not all countries where Minecraft is released have boundless gaming laws. There are some locations where the game is released in which have very specific laws which Mojang must abide to in order to keep the game within that territory.
As part of the law in South Korea all video games must have constant reminders and prompts which are highly visible to the player while playing the game. These reminders must state to the players that they need to take breaks from gameplay.
Aside from the addition of the new command and bug fixes the Minecraft 1.18.2 release was also for the purpose to comply to South Korea’s laws so that Minecraft will not be banned from the state.
Mojang had to add timers and notices to remind players to take breaks in between gameplay. They have successfully added the feature and have been fully compliant with the South Korean gaming laws.
Changes and Additions
As stated above this release is a minor update. Which means that you might not directly notice the changes and additions that you get from this version compared to Minecraft 1.18.1.
Some observable changes which you might experience with regards to the game in general would be a new value on the debug screen and an addition of a new language.
In this version the debug screen now has the chunk position within the region file. Aside from that it also now has the identify of the region file where the player is actively standing on at the moment. It adds all of those information and the last part of the Chunk row information from within the debug screen.
Some of the observable gameplay changes you might notice includes alterations of the Ender chest, some mobs, and in the world generation.
Simple enough since the holidays are pretty much over the Ender chests now do not have any gift wrappers around them unless you are using a resource pack of course.
With regards to the mobs you might be able to spot changes on the behaviors of Dolphins, Glow Squids and Tropical Fish.
Dolphins now pick the closest possible structure within it’s range. The Glow Squids now only spawn in completely dark areas and the Tropical Fish now only spawn if the block above it is an entire water block.
